Cellist Weiting Sun is recognized for her expressive playing, collaborative spirit, and dedication to music education. A member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, she is also an active performer and experienced teacher based in New York City. A versatile cellist of solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire, Sun has received top prizes in the National ASTA Solo Competition, the Ackerman Honors Award, and the Eastman Honors Chamber Music Competition. She has appeared as a soloist with the Rockland Symphony Orchestra and Boston Conservatory String Ensemble, and has performed solo recitals and made chamber music appearance across Asia, Europe and North America at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall and the National Concert Hall in Taipei.

As an orchestra musician, Sun has performed as a substitute cellist with the Cleveland Orchestra and San Diego Symphony. She was also an associate member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra before joining the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in 2025. Her chamber music and orchestral experience has been further enriched through participation in internationally recognized festivals, including the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Domaine Forget, and the Texas Music Festival, where she served as principal cellist while attending as a scholarship recipient.

Passionate about chamber music and education, Sun has served as a substitute chamber music coach at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. She maintains a private teaching studio in New York City and serves on the faculty of Rococo Music Studio in Great Neck, NY. 

Sun holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the New England Conservatory. She is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate at Stony Brook University, where she studies with Colin Carr. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned cellists including David Geringas, Martti Rousi, and Jian Wang.
